CARDOX™ Low Pressure CO₂ Fire Suppression System

Centralized, Large-Capacity CO₂ Suppression for Complex Industrial Hazards

The CARDOX™ Low Pressure CO₂ Fire Suppression System is engineered for applications requiring large quantities of carbon dioxide, multiple discharge cycles, expansion capability, or protection of numerous hazards from a common storage supply.

Unlike high-pressure cylinder systems, CARDOX™ stores CO₂ in refrigerated, low-pressure storage tanks, providing an efficient and scalable suppression solution for facilities requiring more than 5,000 lbs. of CO₂ for centralized protection across multiple hazard areas.

Designed for demanding industrial environments, CARDOX™ low pressure CO₂ system delivers rapid, reliable suppression while supporting extended discharge capability and system flexibility.

Key Advantages
  • Ideal for Large CO₂ Requirements
Designed for applications requiring more than 5,000 lbs. of CO₂ for multiple hazard coverage.
  • Multiple and Extended Discharges
Supports repeated or extended discharge cycles from a centralized storage system.
  • Centralized Hazard Protection
Allows multiple hazards to be protected from a common piping network.
  • Rapid Suppression Performance
CO₂ penetrates the hazard area within seconds to suppress fire by oxygen dilution.
  • Clean, Residue-Free Agent
Leaves no residue, eliminating post-discharge cleanup.
  • Cost-Effective Replenishment
CO₂ is generally less expensive to replenish than many alternative suppression agents.
  • No Hydrostatic Testing Required for Storage Tank
Reduces long-term maintenance complexity compared to high-pressure cylinder banks.

Applications

CARDOX™ Low Pressure CO₂ systems are well suited for industrial environments requiring centralized or high-capacity protection, including:

  • Facilities with multiple protected hazard areas
  • Industrial process equipment
  • Power generation facilities
  • Petrochemical and refining operations
  • Manufacturing plants
  • Areas requiring repeated suppression capability

The system supports both enclosed and partially enclosed hazards and can accommodate environments with continuous air handling processes.

Applications for the CARDOX™ Low Pressure CO₂
System Architecture

Suppression Method

Carbon dioxide extinguishes fire by:

  • Diluting oxygen to a concentration that will not support combustion
  • Absorbing heat from the fire

CO₂ may be applied using:

  • Total Flooding – Delivers CO₂ into an enclosure until the required extinguishing concentration is achieved.
  • Local Application – Directly applies CO₂ to the protected hazard at the rate required to suppress flames and cool the hazard.

CO₂ systems are generally not recommended for normally occupied spaces except where other means of fire protection are not effective.

Low-Pressure Storage Design

CARDOX™ stores CO₂ in refrigerated low-pressure storage tanks, available in:

  • Vertical or horizontal configurations
  • Capacities ranging from approximately 2¾ tons to 60 tons
  • Multiple voltage options (120, 220, 380, 460, and 575 volts; 50/60Hz; single and three-phase variants)
  • Optional CSA and PED-approved configurations are available.

Detection & Control Integration

  • Engineered for integration with detection and control systems
  • Supports centralized system actuation
  • Allows coordinated suppression across multiple hazard zones
  • Designed for scalable facility growth and future expansion
